How to install NetMirror on Firestick

Overview

Installing NetMirror on an Amazon Firestick is a four-step process that takes about five minutes end-to-end. You\'ll flip one developer toggle, install the free Downloader app from the Amazon Appstore, point Downloader at the NetMirror TV APK URL, and tap Install. After that, NetMirror sits in your Apps & Channels row like any other Firestick app.

The reason we use Downloader instead of pure ADB sideloading: typing URLs with the Firestick remote D-pad is slow and error-prone. Downloader has a clean URL keypad, remembers your recent downloads, and handles the "tap to install" hand-off automatically. It\'s the standard tool for every Firestick-related guide for a reason.

Which Firesticks work?

The NetMirror TV APK works on every Firestick released since 2018 (Fire OS 6+). 4K Max and Cube give the smoothest experience with full 4K HDR support. HD-only models (Firestick Lite, 3rd-gen HD) work fine but cap at 1080p.

Firestick 4K Max (2nd Gen)

Best for 4K HDR + Dolby Vision · Wi-Fi 6E · recommended

Firestick 4K Max (1st Gen)

Excellent 4K HDR · Wi-Fi 6 · runs everything smoothly

Firestick 4K (3rd Gen, 2023)

4K HDR · slightly slower than Max but still great

Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen)

Most powerful · hands-free Alexa · ethernet port included

Fire TV Cube (2nd Gen)

4K HDR + Alexa · ethernet via USB adapter

Firestick (3rd Gen, HD)

HD only · 1080p playback works, no 4K

Firestick Lite

HD only · no volume buttons on remote · most affordable

Fire TV Stick (2nd Gen)

Older model · still supported but Android 7 required minimum

Four things to check. Most users have all four already.

Step-by-step install

4 steps · ~5 min

Four steps in order. Illustrated Firestick UI mockups show what each screen looks like — the actual on-screen text may vary slightly by Fire OS version, but the flow is identical.

Step 1

Allow apps from unknown sources

Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options
Like every Android-based device, your Firestick needs a one-time permission before it can install an app from outside the Amazon Appstore. The toggle lives under Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options.

On older Fire OS versions you'll see "Apps from Unknown Sources" as a single toggle. On Fire OS 7+ (newer Firesticks), it lives under "Install Unknown Apps" and you enable it per-app — toggle it ON for Downloader specifically. Same end result either way.

Tip: If "Developer Options" doesn't appear in My Fire TV, scroll to About → click "Fire TV Stick" seven times to unlock developer mode (just like Android phones).

Install Downloader from the Amazon Appstore

Free · Alexa voice search · ~10 seconds
Downloader by AFTVnews is the most popular sideloading tool on Firestick. It's free, has 100M+ installs from the Amazon Appstore, and is officially approved by Amazon. We use it because typing URLs with the remote D-pad is painful — Downloader makes it survivable.

Press the microphone button on your remote and say "Downloader". Alexa finds the app instantly. Click Get / Download → wait 10 seconds → Open.

Tip: No voice mic on your remote (older Firestick Lite)? Go to Home → search icon → type "Downloader" with the D-pad. It's on the front page of search results.

Open Downloader and enter the NetMirror APK URL

Type the short URL · ~30 seconds
Launch Downloader. The first screen asks for a URL — that's where you point it to the {SITE.name} TV APK download. We publish a short URL specifically for Firestick: netmirror.tv/fs (or use the full URL from our homepage if the short one is blocked in your region).

Type the URL using the on-screen keyboard (D-pad to navigate, Select to type each character). Click Go. The {APP.size} APK downloads in 10-20 seconds on most Wi-Fi connections.

Tip: Downloader saves recent URLs in History so you don't have to retype on future updates. Bookmark the homepage of this site in your phone — when the URL rotates, you'll always have the latest.

Install the APK and launch NetMirror

~20 seconds to install
When the download finishes, Downloader auto-prompts the install dialog: "Install this app on your TV?" with Cancel and Install buttons.

Select Install (right arrow → OK). System installer runs for ~20 seconds. Once done, you'll see "App installed" with two buttons — Done and Open. Tap Open to launch {SITE.name} immediately.

On next launches, find {SITE.name} in Apps & Channels on your home screen (long-press the home button → Apps). Move it to the front row of Apps for one-click access.

Tip: After install, Downloader prompts "Delete APK file?" to save space. Click Delete — the app is already installed; the APK file is no longer needed and removing it frees up 49 MB on your Firestick.

NetMirror is live on your Firestick.

Browse the home feed with your remote, hit OK to play, ask Alexa to skip or pause. The Firestick 4K Max + Cube models give the smoothest 4K HDR playback. After install, you can also delete the Downloader APK file (it\'s no longer needed).

First-run setup

On first launch, NetMirror walks you through a short onboarding (~20 seconds):

  1. 1

Language picker — default audio + subtitle languages. Use the D-pad to move, OK to select.

  2. 2

Storage permission prompt — accept this so the local watchlist and Continue Watching row persist.

  3. 3

10-second remote-control tour — how to skip 10s, switch audio language, toggle subtitles, exit to home.

  4. 4

Home feed loads — featured banner, OTT platform tabs, Continue Watching and Trending rows.

Alexa voice tips

Voice

The biggest Firestick win over plain Android TV is Alexa integration. Once NetMirror is installed, these four voice tricks save real time.

Skip the typing

"Alexa, open Downloader" or "Alexa, open NetMirror" — instantly launches the app from any screen, no D-pad navigation.

Search inside the app

Open NetMirror, then press the mic button and say a movie name. The app picks it up as a search query and jumps you to results.

Volume + playback

"Alexa, pause" / "Alexa, fast-forward 30 seconds" / "Alexa, volume 5" — all work inside the player on Firestick 4K Max + Cube.

Resume Continue Watching

"Alexa, resume the last show on NetMirror" — picks up where you left off, faster than clicking through the app UI.

Troubleshooting

6 common issues · verified fixes

The six most common Firestick install / playback issues, each with the actual root cause and the verified fix.

"App from this developer is not allowed on this device"
Why this happens

Amazon's "Collect App Usage Data" is set to ON, which sometimes blocks sideloaded apps on newer Fire OS builds.

The fix

Go to Settings → Preferences → Privacy Settings → toggle OFF "Collect App Usage Data" and "Interest-based Ads". Reboot the Firestick (unplug for 10 sec, plug back). Retry the install — works on first try after the reboot.

Downloader says "Unable to download" or "URL not found"
Why this happens

The NetMirror URL has rotated to a new domain — your Firestick is still looking at the old one.

The fix

Visit our homepage on your phone or PC to get the current working URL. Type the new URL into Downloader. The native Android/TV/Firestick app versions usually pick up the rotation automatically on launch — only first-time installs need the manual URL.

Install button is greyed out even after enabling Unknown Sources
Why this happens

Either the APK didn't download fully (low memory) or "Install Unknown Apps" needs to be re-toggled specifically for Downloader.

The fix

Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options → Install Unknown Apps → confirm Downloader is set to ON. If still greyed out, free up storage: Settings → My Fire TV → About → Storage → check free space. Need at least 200 MB free.

Video player shows a black screen on 4K HDR titles
Why this happens

Firestick HDMI handshake or HDR pass-through issue — common on Sony TVs with auto-HDR settings.

The fix

Settings → Display → Video Resolution → set to 1080p 60Hz temporarily, watch the title, then switch back to Auto. Alternatively: unplug Firestick + TV for 30 seconds, plug back in (HDMI handshake reset). Long-term fix: update Firestick firmware (Settings → My Fire TV → About → Check for Updates).

Remote can't scroll inside the NetMirror player
Why this happens

Some Firestick remote firmware versions intercept D-pad events that the player needs.

The fix

Use the Fire TV mobile app on your phone as a remote (free from Play Store/App Store) — it has a virtual D-pad and trackpad that pass events correctly. Also useful as a typing keyboard for future URL changes.

Audio is out of sync with video
Why this happens

Bluetooth audio (soundbar or headphones) introduces ~50-200ms latency that Firestick doesn't always auto-compensate for.

The fix

In NetMirror player: gear icon → Audio → A/V Sync Offset → adjust in 50ms increments until audio lines up. Or, in Firestick settings: Display & Sounds → Audio → A/V Sync Tuning. For wired HDMI audio, this issue shouldn't occur.

Firestick install FAQ

Eight questions Firestick users ask most often.

Will sideloading void my Firestick warranty?
No. Sideloading via Downloader is a first-class Fire OS feature — Amazon publicly documents it as a supported developer flow. The Firestick warranty is unaffected by sideloaded apps. The only thing that voids warranty is opening the physical device or rooting Fire OS.
Does NetMirror work on Firestick Lite (HD-only model)?
Yes, but capped at 1080p Full HD. The Firestick Lite's SoC and decoder can't handle 4K H.265 streams. If you want 4K HDR, get a Firestick 4K or 4K Max. The app itself runs the same — just the video output is HD.
How do I update NetMirror on Firestick when a new version drops?
Two ways: (1) The app shows an in-app update prompt on launch when a new version is available — one click installs the update. (2) Manually re-run Downloader with the same URL — it downloads the latest APK, prompts to update, and your watchlist persists across the update.
Will Alexa voice search work inside NetMirror?
Yes on Firestick 4K Max and Cube. Press the mic button on the remote and say a movie/show name — Alexa passes the query to whichever app is in focus. On older Firesticks with the older Alexa remote, voice works for global "open app" commands but not always for in-app search.
Can I install NetMirror on a Fire TV Smart TV (not a stick)?
Yes. Amazon-branded Fire TV Smart TVs (Toshiba Fire TV, Insignia Fire TV, AmazonBasics 4K Fire TV) run Fire OS and support sideloading via Downloader using the same exact steps. The remote is slightly different (volume buttons) but the install flow is identical.
Does NetMirror support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos on Firestick 4K Max?
Dolby Vision: yes, on titles that have it natively (most major Netflix and Disney+ originals). Dolby Atmos: partial — the player passes audio through but Atmos object-based mix isn't always preserved on third-party CDNs. 5.1 surround works reliably on most titles.
How do I uninstall NetMirror cleanly later?
Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications → NetMirror → Uninstall. Fire OS removes the app, all data, and revokes the storage permission. Your Firestick returns to exactly its pre-install state.
Can I install via ADB instead of Downloader?
Yes — advanced users can sideload via ADB from a PC. Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options → ADB Debugging ON. Then from a PC: "adb connect FIRESTICK_IP" + "adb install NetMirror.apk". This is faster for repeated installs across multiple Firesticks but overkill for a one-time install. Downloader is simpler.

Ready to install on Firestick?

Enable one toggle, install Downloader, paste the URL, tap Install — five minutes to your first big-screen movie. Works on every Firestick from 2018 onwards.
